"Insight" Cane for the Blind

Insight is a group project that was started during my experiences at Otis College of Art and Design. By collaborating with students from Loyola Marymount University, we had to come up with a concept of solving a global problem.

The blind have it hard when it comes to navigating and understanding their surroundings. Insight was born to create a solution to solve problems in low hanging objects with sonar technologies integrated with haptic response.

What we solved in this project was a way for the blind to navigate freely not worrying about bumping into objects that can create an injury. What the sonar application provides is a sort of barrier that sends the signals back and forth above the waist to trigger the haptic response. The device will vibrate to warn the user about the oncoming threat when a conventional white cane will only detect object below the waist.
